Compare Japan's annual and monthly CPI inflation rates across years.
Japan's annual inflation rate is calculated from the not-seasonally-adjusted All-items CPI published through E-Stat. Each completed year compares the final CPI observation with the final observation of the previous calendar year; the incomplete current year is marked YTD.
The table shows the month-over-month percentage change in Japan's headline CPI for every month, alongside each calendar year's cumulative inflation rate. Positive monthly inflation is shaded red and deflation is shaded green.
The dashed 2% line represents the Bank of Japan's price-stability target. It provides a reference for comparing Japan's realized calendar-year inflation with the central bank's objective.
Monthly inflation is the month-over-month percentage change in Japan's not-seasonally-adjusted All-items Consumer Price Index published by Statistics Bureau of Japan through E-Stat. Annual inflation uses the same index and is calculated from the final available observation in each calendar year to the final observation in the previous year. For an incomplete current year, the latest observation is compared with the previous calendar year's final observation and marked YTD. The dashed line on the annual chart represents the Bank of Japan's 2% price-stability target.
